Obtained by defeating [[Adamantoise]] (Level 99+), which can be done after [[Chapter 9]] and returning to [[Lucis via Umbra]], [[Cindy]] will give you a call at that point and start the quest line which in turn unlocks a bounty to kill Adamantoise.
Note: Adamantite is *NOT a 100% drop** from Adamantoise and can be obtained more than once, though not worth the trouble and time unless you can kill him within at least 30 minutes.*
