How to catch the Vesper Gar - Fishing Side Quest, Start sidequest chain near Alstor Slough.
Preparation: The Vesper Gar has a strong attack and moves left to right quickly. Update your gear at the fishing store near the Fishing Spot (Vesperpool East Bank) just north of the camp. Make sure to use a Dragon Beard line.
Lure: Stinker: Malboro, Stinker: Malbodoom, Stinker: Great Malboro. There are some near Vesperpool West Bank next to the quest giver. There is also a secret fish shop north of vesperpol you can reach by swimming with the chocobo, northwest of the lake, Vesperpool Islet fishing spot.
How to catch: He shows up during the day. He looks like a barracuda, with a crocodilian mouth. Do not reel hard when he is struggling. Make sure to turn to the direction he is facing quickly. If you cannot find him: Make sure you are in the fishing spot near the quest giver Vesperpool West during the daytime, so when there is a yellow sun symbol. Make sure you are using the right lure as above.
If you cannot reel him in: Update your line dragon beard, reel and rod from the shop as mentioned above. He is an aggressive fish without much stamina. So make sure you do not reel when he is struggling or only tap it once. He struggles when there is a symbol and the tension increases you can see him splash. Make sure to turn the rod to the direction he is facing.
