Abilities

Death

Enables Noctis to drain the life-force of enemies and causes them to disintegrate. When the enemy is killed and collapses into dust, the spell restores Noctis's HP with the amount the enemy had when it died. It is used via the attack command when the Ring of the Lucii is in the weapon slot and gradually drains MP. It works well against small daemons. After the 1.06 patch it deals damage to enemies in addition to the chance of instant kill. Deals more damage and has better chance of instant kill the more Magic Noctis has.

Holy

Noctis instantaneously smites foes with sacred energy and deals holy damage to nearby enemies when Noctis dodges their attacks. It is activated by tapping or holding down the Phase/Defense button, and is a counterattack. Should the Phase/Defense button be held without Noctis being attacked, he will walk cautiously like in Phase Mode, but will be in a focused state to ready the spell when pressed to do so. Doing this gradually drains his MP. If Noctis successfully counters an enemy with Holy, he will recover some MP. After patch 1.06 its normal damage was halved, but its MP recovery was boosted and the recovery time between casts was removed. Blinking (guarding at the last second) casts Holy that deals ~15x normal damage but it doesn't break the damage limit. This also makes Noctis teleport to the enemy if they're far away. This move recovers x2.5 more MP than normal. Damage scales with Magic stat and level.

Alterna

The final spell can be used on wide areas that have enough room for the spell to go off, and is used by locking onto the enemy and using the warp button. This spell has Noctis temporarily break open the fabric of reality, creating a crystalline gate into another dimension that ejects all enemies from the battle entirely. Casting it costs a full MP bar. After the 1.06 patch it has a chance of working even against superbosses and story bosses such as Adamantoise, MA-X Angellus-0 and Ifrit.

  • if you tap the warp strike button, you can also do this short-range teleport that costs MP.

Patch 1.07 Buffs

Death

  • Dramatically increased proc rate.
  • MP cost seems to be the same
  • Now deals damage. Damage seems proportional to enemy's "death defense". Scale with magic stat scales with magic but has enemy-specific hard-cap.

Holy

  • Normal damage nerfed. About half of what it was pre-patch
  • Increased mp gain from casting by 50%
  • Recovery time between casts seems to be removed
  • Blinking makes you do a super cast that deals about 15x normal damage (no limit break). This also makes you teleport to the enemy if they're far away. Recovers 2.5 times more mp than normal holy.
  • Still scales with magic and level.

Alterna

  • Increased chance of proccing.
  • Magic seems to affect proc chance. This might have been the case pre-patch as well, but it was hard to tell because proc chance was so low.
  • Haven't found any other changes atm, it doesn't do damage.
